Inappropriate behaviour is a like saying, "hey, I need something". So when your dog continues to do a behaviour despite your best efforts, there will be a reason for it.  It may not seem logical to us but it serves a function for them. As all their choices are based on emotions, dogs can become more challenging the more insistent we become.

Dogs thrive off connection, they'd prefer to cooperate because they're social animals but they're also sensitive to pressure. It's not in their best interest to expend all their energy in defiance or defence. They will chase the rewards though, so if relief provides that a dog can fight tooth and nail for it. That's a dog who no longer values our connection, ignores us, distrusts our judgements. They can take matters into their own hands, become destructive, outwardly express all this tension, or supress and direct it into unusual or unpredictable behaviours.

It's never too late to learn why your dog behaves the way they do, and you can teach an old dog new tricks! With proper advice and support you will see your dog with new eyes, because underneath all that chaos is your best friend. They're ready for change as much as you are.
