The role of a Dog Behaviourist is to investigate excessive, unusual and unsafe behaviour that cannot be resolved through standard obedience-style training. Layne will look for the root cause and best possible solution for your dog to recover and live well.

ACHIEVE CALM, SAFE, PREDICTABLE DOG BEHAVIOUR AS A TEAM

The most well-loved dog can develop behaviour issues because many factors come into play. The key to successful behaviour change is knowing the most effective approach for your dog as an individual, while feeling comfortable and motivated to carry out what is needed.

If you're about to run out of will-power this is where the support of an expert can really help. Layne is skilled at coaching people through each step of the behaviour change process.

STREETWISE DOGS do it different

After 12 years of working with dog aggression, Layne has developed a way of training, coaching, and educating that ensures her clients achieve success. It's a water-tight approach so comprehensive that her style is what sets her apart in the field. Dogs are accurately assessed, people instructed in ways they best understand, and the behaviour work itself combines knowledge passed down by experts, her own experience with dogs, and animal handling skills acquired while living on working farms and training horses using natural techniques. Layne places emphasis on the importance of understanding our role within the animals life, as dogs are predators and therefor emotionally and neurologically affected by our own movement, sound, and emotional state. The behaviour programs provide you with skills and knowledge to continue to support your dogs safe and happy behaviour long after completion.

BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT

In-depth dog behaviour assessments

An opportunity for Layne to learn who your dog is, how they respond within the set up, the level of intensity and range of communication they have, to look for what may hold them back from progressing, to understand what your dog needs to be safe and happy

The assessment is a 3 part process:

  1. Phone Consult

  2. Behaviour History Analysis

  3. Observation

When you contact Layne you'll be offered a phone consult to discuss your dogs behaviour and book their assessment. The behaviour history form that follows is to be filled out online, this provides key information when both assessing and addressing your dogs behavioural needs.

During the 2 hour observational assessment, Layne will make clear your dog's body language, behaviours and reasonings. Following this, you'll receive a full behaviour report, including essential management strategies to minimise risk, reduce stress and improve wellbeing.

Behaviour Programs are accessible after this 3 part assessment.

BEHAVIOUR PROGRAMS

Expert guidance, specialist techniques and ongoing behavioural analysis

Behaviour programs are created specifically for the dog as an individual. They're thoughtfully structured, considering all parts of the assessment; the dogs personality, learning preferences, cognitive ability, stress tolerance, physical health and impairments, behaviour patterns, past experiences, lifestyle, play-style, breed traits, age, sex, hormones, etc along with your capacity to participate.

Layne uses a variety of systems, such as modern behaviour modification, play-based training, and body awareness methods. These combined approaches help dogs become emotionally regulated to make good choices daily, as they're mentally, emotionally, and physically supported.

The program will coach you to confidently manage your dog's behaviour while learning the mechanics of achieving positive outcomes. Through demonstrations and hands-on specialised training you'll experience your dog achieve milestones.

The number of sessions within your program will depend on a few factors:

  • Your dog's capacity to learn
  • Your capacity to practise techniques between sessions
  • How closely you follow management advice
  • The complexity of the behaviour
  • The desire outcome, be that resolved or just confident to progress alone
